How to find them in 15 minutes
Here's the fastest workflow for a typical slate:
- Pull the injury report. Flag every starter listed Out or Questionable.
- For each absence, identify the player who absorbs the usage — usually the backup at the same position, plus a usage bump for the other starters.
- Pull those players' player props on all available books.
- Project minutes (use season average × 1.15-1.25 for direct backups) and usage (add 3-5%).
- Compare against the line. Bet anything with an 8%+ edge.
Why injury-driven props beat star props
Sportsbooks set sharp lines on stars because every bettor is looking at them. The lines move fast, the markets are efficient, and edges close in seconds.
Injury-driven role-player props move slower. The books re-price the direct replacement but often miss second-order effects. That's where the edge lives every night.

If a prop opens at 12.5 points and is bet down to 11.5 within an hour, sharp money is hitting the under. You can either follow it or fade depending on your model — but ignore line movement and you're betting blind.
A line that moves against the public — for example, an over getting hammered but the line going down — is one of the strongest sharp signals in the market.
